Another year has come and gone, can you believe it? We are almost into a New Year which means we should take some time to reflect on the year that we just got through. I know for many of us, it was a year of sorrow and blessing all in one. A New Year brings new opportunities to excel in the things that we do and it allows us to set new goals for the year ahead. In reflection, I have decided that although there were sad times this year, 2014 was a year of blessing for our family. Reflecting back on what you achieve in a year is helpful in moving on into a new year!
So, before 2015 comes, I’d like to take some time and share 2014: A Year of Blessings. I hope that you enjoy and that you take some time to reflect on your past year and find that one word that summarizes your year- in a positive way.
January- Learning we were pregnant
We always knew we wanted to have children and were just waiting for the right time. After 3 years of marriage, we knew we were ready. On January 16 we got a positive pregnancy test and couldn’t have been more excited.
March- Granny passed away, Visiting Family
In mid March, my Dad’s mother passed away. She was a beautiful woman, a great cook and a wonderful Grandmother. We miss her dearly but know that she is rejoicing in Heaven with our relatives that have passed before.
Visiting Family in Massachusetts- Garrett and I joined his parents to visit my Mother-in-Law’s family in MA. It was a great trip as I’ve never been to that area. I had some morning sickness but it was a great trip overall.
May- 1 year from spinal fusion, Gender Reveal Party
Last year, I got a Spinal Fusion to solve many back issues that had stemmed from a pars defect. Getting the spinal fusion was a decision that we did not take lightly but knew that it was definitely needed. In order to have children, I needed this fusion – this year we celebrated the year anniversary of the surgery.
We hosted a Gender Reveal party at our house in our newly renovated kitchen! It was a blast to tell everyone the news– check out the reveal:
June- 27th birthday
Another year passed and this year my husband worked with my brother-in-law and his family to surprise me at a Blue Crabs game on my older sister’s birthday (which happens to be 2 days before mine). It was a great night in the exclusive box and Garrett even caught a foul baseball with his bare hands!
September- Liam’s birth
After 3 long days of an induction due to Interuterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), Liam Wesley joined our family on September 22 at 1:49am. He weighed in at 5lb 12oz. and was 18.5” long. He came into the world via C-section, and we couldn’t be happier.
October- Liam’s first Halloween
Liam was a monkey for his first Halloween! He and I sat outside with Garrett to hand candy to the cute Trick-or-Treaters that came through the neighborhood. Liam thought it was a great time to sleep, he was all warm and bundled up!
November- Hosting our first Thanksgiving
Call us crazy with a 2 month old but we hosted Thanksgiving this year at our house. Both sets of parents came over to our house and brought things to contribute to the meal. Dad made his famous stuffing and my Mother-in-law made a delicious éclair cake. We had a great time celebrating our Thankfulness with family.
December – Liam’s first Christmas
This is our last year of traveling around the area (our families are both local) for Christmas- Liam is only going to get older and everyone will be coming to us. We had a fantastic Christmas season celebrating with both the Smith’s and the Douglass’. Grammy was in town from PA and that was her first time meeting Liam, now 3 months old. Liam got some fantastic presents, including a bumbo seat, bead toy, play mat, and clothes!
2015 is almost here! I cannot believe another year has passed but I am excited for 2015. Stay tuned for a post on my 2015 New Year’s Resolutions! How was your 2014?
