As we gear up for our son to enter 3rd grade, I am just amazed at how fast the time has flown not only this summer but also his life. Our younger two won’t go to school yet but they see their brother going to school and are excited to learn too.

Back to School Tips

There are several ways to prepare your kiddos for back to school. In addition to getting all of the school supplies they need, new clothes, shoes and book bags, you also need to prepare them with a routine and get them ready for early mornings.

If this is your child’s first year in school, or the first year riding the school bus, you should also prepare them for that. Last year, we had issues when our son started to ride the bus the first time ever. He has speech and communication delays so we tried to prepare him as much as we could for the bus ride. It didn’t work out as the bus driver was not willing to work with him, but now we have this awesome school bus that we can teach him through play.

How cute is this school bus from PlayMobil?! This 46 piece set is so fun and great for back to school. When we are not using it to teach our son how to ride the bus, my toddler is using it for pretend play!

My son and I put this together and it was so much fun to do. We love PlayMobil sets in our home, too! The directions were easy to follow and there were a few bags of pieces organized for us.

While we were putting it together, I was able to remind my son that we sit down once we get on the bus, and show him the different parts of the bus that he needed to know. Hopefully one day he will be able to ride the bus again.

Bake to School with Hey Buddy Hey Pal Cake-N-Bake Challenge Game

Another important skill for back to school is taking turns. Collaborative play is something that I need my kids to understand. We do this a lot through games like this one from Hey Buddy Hey Pal.

The game is so much fun for the entire family. Our daughter is into pretend play a lot so she likes to “eat” the cake when she’s done. This is also a GREAT game for my son and daughter to play together. They are both able to learn valuable skills and prepare for social situations at school.
