Are you still making brownies from the box? If so, you’re missing out on how easy and delicious they are when they’re made from scratch. Over the last few years, I’ve been making a lot of desserts from scratch including cakes, cookies and brownies and they are SO much more delicious than out of the box!
Brownies are SO simple to make from scratch with just a few ingredients. In fact, I make these so often that I always have the ingredients on hand. Cocoa powder is like a staple in my home now for dessert making even though my husband doesn’t like chocolate.
You’re going to love these brownies if you’re a fan of chewy ones. If you’re not, though, you can just bake them for a little longer to make them more cake like. Sometimes I even make a chocolate glaze for my brownies or add toppings like marshmallow creme or caramel. Yum!
I love the corner pieces, so I really enjoy making them in my square baking pan so I can get all corner pieces. With this pan, I get both the chewy inside and the crunchy edges — my favorite!!
One of the key ingredients in brownies (besides cocoa powder) are the eggs. I love to use Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs in my brownies. These eggs are Certified Humane, Free Range eggs that come from hens that are free to roam outside, peck at the ground, dustbathe and act like real hens.
Easy and Delicious Homemade Brownies
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 large eggs (I use Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs)
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/3 cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup flour
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Mix oil and sugar until well blended.
Add eggs and vanilla; stir just until blended.
Mix all dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
Stir dry ingredients into the oil/sugar mixture.
Pour into greased 9 x 9 square pan.
Bake for 20 minutes or until sides just starts to pull away from the pan. Cool completely.
Enjoy. I like to dust mine with a little powdered sugar!
You’re never going to buy boxed brownie mix again. This recipe is so easy to customize with different toppings or even fillings. Have you ever put Oreo cookies in your brownies – simply add 1/2 of the mixture in the bottom of the dish, lay Oreos around and then top with the other 1/2 of the batter and bake — DELICIOUS!!

These brownies do sound excellent, and I like to use oil instead of butter. I've heard these are good eggs, I'd like to try them.

I'm sure these brownies will taste better than those from a mix. Just pinned so I can make these soon!
