The most important thing to me is you have to be trustworthy. If you're not then nothing else matters.

The first thing I notice about someone is their smile and their eyes! Honesty and the ability to communicate is, I think, very important in a spouse

Daily love comment: My husband and I both love angels & he always calls me an earth angel & we I love inspirational quotes. One of the unique things we did at our wedding that we loved was : I made pretty "cones" filled with small white feathers and on each cone in pretty writing, wrote the quote "WE ARE ALL LIKE ANGELS WITH ONLY ONE WING AND CAN ONLY FLY WHILE EMBRACING ONE ANOTHER." At the end of our ceremony when the music was playing and bubbles were filling the air - our guests threw the feathers in the air over our heads instead of rice or such.

The first things I notice about most people when I first meet them, usually, are their eyes and facial expressions/ body language - energy vibe they give off... if they look/feel friendly and open, or shy, or rude etc.
One thing I had NEVER experienced in all my years of looking into people's eyes was what I did when I met my now husband, face to face for the 1st time and I KNOW It sounds cheesy & like a Valentine's day card or something, but I SWEAR it is true and especially because I was determined that I was NOT looking for a serious or exclusive relationship at that time and neither was here, it actually SHOCKED and scared me.. but when I looked into his eyes I don't know else how to explain it other than it felt like I then Fell INTO soul and like I had been on a lifelong journey for over 30 yrs I didn't even realize I was on and now I felt like I was "home" and this is where I belonged. This was on our FIRST face to face date so it was extremely overwhelming and I didn't know how to process such a feeling. Apparently, he felt the same way because neither of us believed in soulmates before then, but since that day, and now 14 yrs later we both still do.
As far as what is most important quality for a spouse or significant other to have... I would think that varies greatly depending on the individual and the couple. If I had to pick ONE thing I would say their faithfulness/devotion/trustworthiness/commitment to the same degree that I give that. For me, I wanted the whole package, I wanted someone I felt a strong chemistry with and was very attracted to physically, but that alone was not enough. I wanted us to have a lot in common, but fun to have some differences to balance one another out and learn from one another and keep things interesting. I love him with all of my being and put my all into showing that and I needed someone who appreciates and enjoys that and is the same way with me. It was important to me that we are one another's best friends and that he wanted the same thing. That we have fun together and respect and like one another besides love one another. I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO TRUST THEM. I am a very faithful and trustworthy partner and so I feel I should expect no less in return. I could not be with someone I can't trust even if he met all the other qualities.
