Dog Shampoo doesn’t have to be store bought. In fact, you can make this flea/tick repellant dog shampoo into a soap bar easily at home! Our dogs are part of our family so we aim to give them the best food and products that we can to ensure they live long and healthy lives.
Our one dog, Mack, has pretty sensitive skin and a sensitive stomach so we have to be careful about what products we use to bathe him and also what we feed him.
We’ve found that many of the over the counter shampoos have something that irritates Mack’s skin and we then find ourselves at the vet spending more money on getting his skin back to what it should be. That’s why I’ve started to make our own dog shampoo soaps.
Not only are these convenient and easy to use, they’re also made with the purest ingredients ensuring that his skin is the healthiest and not irritated.
These soaps are easy to make and perfect for your dog this summer! With just a few simple ingredients, these soaps are ready to use on your pup’s skin!
When the bath is over, give your pups a delicious Frozen Pup Pop or a Peanut Butter Banana Dog Bone as a treat!

- Lemongrass Essential Oil
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Chamomile Essential Oil

How to Make Dog Shampoo Bars:

Why Lemongrass Essential Oil?
This essential oil has been shown to repel fleas and ticks on dogs while being completely safe to use on them. It also has skin healing properties.
Why Cedarwood Essential Oil?
This oil has not only been shown to repel fleas and ticks, it can also keep their skin healthy and relax them.
Next, add lavender essential oil.
Why Lavender Essential Oil?
Not only does this oil have great calming effects, it can also calm irritated skin. My dog gets dry skin in the summer and scratches a good bit. Lavender oil helps with that irritated skin on Mack!
Now, add chamomile essential oil.
Why Chamomile Essential Oil?
I used this oil because it can calm irritated skin, acts as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. It helps with hot spots on your dog’s skin too.
Add oatmeal and mix everything together.
Why Use Oatmeal?
I used oatmeal because it is great for soothing any skin irritations and itchy skin your dog may have.
Sprinkle a bit of the oatmeal into the mold and then fill mold evenly with mixture.
Spray with rubbing alcohol.
Allow to harden for at least two hours.
How Do You Store these DIY Dog Shampoo Bars?
I recommend storing in a plastic bag or a container with a lid.
Are There Other Ways to Keep my Dog Smelling Fresh Between Washes?
You can also use the essential oils in a spray in between washings. Add 10 drops of each in a bottle and fill with distilled water. Spray on your dog’s coat and gently rub in.

Ugh! My soap would not melt in the microwave. I did at least 8 minutes worth of the 30-second intervals and it never truly melted. Any suggestions?

Did you order the soap base that I have linked? Perhaps add a little bit of water?

Why spray with rubbing alcohol. Can I leave this step.out?

It helps to prevent soda ash on cold process soap, and helps layers stick together when working with melt and pour. However, if you want to skip this step, it isn’t going to be detrimental to the soaps.
