My husband and I love to have a date night now and then, but between paying a sitter and spending money on dinner and a movie, it can get expensive! We love to find frugal ways to have fun without breaking the budget. Here are some free dates anytime of year.
Read all About It
Heading to the bookstore or library to browse the shelves is a frugal, fun way to spend date night. We love to peruse the travel section to plan our dream vacations or read love poems from our favorite authors. (Check out Pablo Neruda or Lord Byron). Spend a few bucks to get a coffee and sip and talk to each other about what you’ve read or just reconnect. If you have to take the kids, there are often children sections that allow them to play and read books where you can see them.
Sample Some Good Eats
Visit your local Farmer’s Market during the spring or summer months, or check out your local grocery store or wholesale club to sample some foods while you walk around the store. Even at grocery stores, local vendors may showcase their products. You don’t have to spend a dime, but you may find something new to add to your pantry or fridge. Either way, it’s an inexpensive way to spend a date!
Get a Workout
Turn on some dance workout videos and work up a sweat with your sweetie! Amazon Prime and Netflix have some easy to follow workout videos, or you can search up your favorites on YouTube. To cool down, try some yoga. This will put you in a meditative mindset and is a great way to relax with your spouse.
Brewery or Wine Tours
Check your area to see if there are any free brewery or winery tours nearby. Usually, these establishments do not charge for tours and they give free samples to bring you in the door. You can always purchase food or additional beverages. If alcohol is not your thing, the process and scenery is still interesting, and they offer nonalcoholic beverages often made onsite as well.
Talk a Walk Down Memory Lane
Those boxes of old photos in the closet or images taking up the memory cards aren’t doing much just sitting there. Look at old photos of you and your spouse together. Reconnect and remember when you first fell in love. Take some time to put photos in frames or albums. You’ll love to see how much you’ve changed but still remain in love after months, years, or even decades of marriage!
Stop at a local animal shelter and cuddle some dogs (or cats if that’s your thing). Not only are you having a free date, you are giving love and care to animals who need it. Who knows? You may even find a furry friend to take home with you! Animals have a way of warming our hearts any time of year.
Date nights can be really expensive but there are so many free things you can do at home or nearby. Don’t break the bank when you can enjoy these free dates anytime of year.

A Year of Dates
Have you reached that point where the words “date night” no longer bring you joy and excitement? I mean you really WANT them to, but instead you hear ‘date night’ and just feel frustrated and disappointed because you haven’t had a single, extra second in your absolutely crazy week of chaos to plan for it? I definitely know the feeling and I’ve got the perfect solution: Plan a year of dates all at once to eliminate the frustration and ENJOY DATE NIGHT!! Planning an entire year of date nights all at once sounds like a pretty daunting task – I get it – but it really doesn’t have to be a big deal at all. It’s the ‘freezer meals’ of date night – AND I got everything ready in under an hour! Wanna know my secret?? I cheated. Kind of. I just went to the experts and got a kit that’s already totally done! It includes everything, so I basically expended no mental energy and hardly any time. You just can’t argue with that.
