Mother’s Day is almost here, are you ready? Have you purchased that gift for your Mom or Mom figure in your life yet? We always have a hard time with that — finding a perfect gift for my Mom and Mother-in-Law. It can take us weeks if not months to find something unique and personal for Mother’s Day. I’m excited to share an awesome line of products available at Macy’s called Heart of Haiti and share how my mothers have inspired me throughout my life.
First, I wanted to share a little about the new Heart of Haiti line available at Macy’s and show you the item that we chose to purchase from the line. “Now entering its sixth year, Macy’s Heart of Haiti program continues its goal of helping Haitian mothers achieve economic empowerment through the sale of their handcrafted goods.”
“…women, brave as stars at dawn…” – Edwidge Danticat (Haitian-American author and mother)
They are resilient. They are proud. They are passionate. That passion radiates through their love for their children, and through the love of their art. Like many mothers, they believe in working hard, and diligently striving for excellence to make a better life for their children; a life far beyond the life they experienced growing up.
They represent…
The passion of Haiti.
These women and mothers have discovered their divine gifts of artistry, and they use those gifts to bring to life their hopes and dreams of establishing sustainable income to support their families. Macy’s continues to boost these efforts by featuring a product line of stunningly beautiful items, many created by these Haitian mothers.
The line of merchandise at Macy’s called Heart of Haiti is fantastic! I took a look through their line of items available and found so many that would be great for Mother’s Day gifts. I also love the meaning behind and the handiwork behind each piece available on Macys.com. I am excited to share what item we picked from the Heart of Haiti line for our home.
This piece will be a constant reminder of the Moms in our lives and the Mothers of Haiti that handcrafted this beautiful piece. On Macys.com and in select stores is a wide variety of items for every taste and Mom.
Check out this story of Yvette who lives in the town of Jacmel. She shares her technique of using tobacco leaves to create unique, papier mache pieces for Macy’s Heart of Haiti collection.
What about this story of Chena Giles who travels down the hill from her home to collect soapstone from the river, and carve it into beautiful pieces, all while her two children are at school.
Finally, I’d like to share with you a little about my Mom!! My Mom truly deserves the best in life, as she has been there for me through thick and thin and is always the first to step up when I need a hand with something even if it is just to ride to the store with me and sit in the car with a sleeping Liam. She has watched Liam for almost the past 2 years so that my husband and I can work hard to provide for our family. She helped us move into our new home, watched our dogs on numerous occasions while we went on trips to see our friends or vacations. My Mom is amazing and I am very thankful for her. There are so many things I could say about her and I could write a book – I love my Mom and I am blessed to have her. Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate these things and to thank her, because we don’t do it enough.
All of the products from the Heart of Haiti collection are available on Macys.com. Haiti has an estimated 400,000 artisans (out of a 10M population) who rely solely on their handcrafted goods as a source of income. No other sector of employment even approaches such numbers. Macy’s Heart of Haiti employees 550 artisans while effecting 4,500 others in a positive way!
