This may seem like a simple task, but take some time to clean them out thoroughly. In our previous home, the dryer wasn’t heating properly. Thankfully my Dad was able to come over and the culprit was NOT the heating element or any other part of the dryer. It was simply that the previous owners had not emptied the dryer vent on a regular basis and the entire back of the dryer was full of lint. That could’ve caused a fire!
Task #2: Replace Batteries in Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
I like to do this when I change my clocks for daylight savings time 2 times a year. It is really important to having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to keep your family safe and healthy. When you change them, be sure to go over the fire safety plan and ensure that your fire extinguisher is in an easy to access location!
Task #3: Change Your Air Filters
Our air filters need to be changed about every 2-4 months. This not only keeps the HVAC unit running smoothly and efficiently, but it cleans the air that you and your family breathe. We check them usually every month to make sure they aren’t extra dirty.
Task #4: Clean Out Your Gutters
Preferably at the end of each season, clean your gutters out. This is important to ensure that the water and other precipitation drains properly. You can also take a look at your shingles to ensure that they’re in tip top shape!
Task #5: Change Water Filters
Changing the water filter in your refrigerator is super easy and inexpensive. Your owner’s manual will have the part number that you need and instructions on how to change it. It is one of the simplest tasks to ensure that you and your family have clean drinking water.
