Cleaning products that are sold in stores can contain so many chemicals and most of the time don’t even work for me. I’ll give you an example — our toilet upstairs was stained and I tried everything to get the stain out, and I mean everything. Nothing worked and I was THIS close to just buying a new toilet. Then, someone recommended a specific cleaner for it that was all natural and removed limescale. I figured I would give it a shot but didn’t expect it to work. Well, lo and behold….. it worked wonders! I still can’t believe that something with all natural ingredients would work better than anything else I tried.

This is when I knew I was onto something — that I could make effective homemade cleaners for my home with a few simple ingredients. Not only are they effective, but they are also MUCH cheaper as I can buy the ingredients in bulk and make multiple batches. This recipe is for soft scrub cleanser that is great for counter tops, stoves, sinks and bathtubs. I even use it on my shower doors. It is super effective and smells amazing!

Homemade Essential Oils Soft Scrub Cleanser

1 cup baking soda
1/4 cup castile or natural dish soap
1 tablespoons Witch Hazel
20-30 drops tea tree essential oil (I use the tea tree oil from this set on Amazon. You can also buy it in a single bottle here)
20-30 drops lime essential oil
20-30 drops orange essential oil
20-30 drops lemon essential oil (you can buy a set of the citrus oils on Amazon)
Airtight container

Step 1: Add baking soda to a small bowl.

Step 2: Add soap to the bowl.

Step 3: Add the witch hazel.

Step 4-7: Add the essential oils. I chose these essential oils because they are great for killing germs and cleaning. They also boost your mood and are a wonderful air freshener. This way your house is clean, smells great and you are happy, even though you just cleaned the house!

Step 8: Mix ingredients together until a creamy paste.

Step 9: Store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag until ready to use.

Use this soft scrub in your house for a variety of your cleaning needs. My favorite place to use it is in my kitchen sink with a sponge. I just scoop some out onto a damp sponge, scrub in a circular motion and then rinse with warm water. This makes the sink sparkle and smell good!

The citrus oils also freshen my garbage disposal, so there’s an extra bonus! What is your favorite use for this soft scrub?
