How to Find Time to Declutter Everyday

A clean home is a happy home! Clean counter tops, empty laundry baskets, and an empty sink are all things that everyone wants to go home to after a long day. But sometimes, a clutter free house is hard to keep. Here are some great ways to help keep up with the clutter, even if you live a busy lifestyle.

Multitask – It’s Easier Than You Think!

There are probably plenty of opportunities, throughout the day, in which you have a few spare minutes of downtime. This is a really great time to be multitasking. While you are waiting for one task to get done, take just a few minutes to start decluttering. For example, while you are waiting for the water to boil, for tonight’s pasta, open up the kitchen cabinets, and sift through the cups and bowls that you no longer use. Souvenir cups can pile up, and the print can rub off easily, so if you have items in the cabinet you no longer use, take this opportunity to get rid of them.

Schedule Five Minutes Into Your Day

Five minutes may not sound like it will give you much time to get any decluttering done, but the time can really add up. Five minutes per day, times seven days a week is thirty five minutes. It does not even have to be every day. Figure out what kind of time you have to spare, and divide the time into multiple days throughout the week. The more you keep up with the clutter, the less you will have to worry about later on.

Declutter As You Go

The best way to declutter is to declutter as you go. When you are doing laundry and you have socks with holes in them, throw them out right away, to prevent cluttering your drawers. If your pen runs out of ink, don’t toss it back in the drawer, thinking that perhaps you will be able to get just a little bit more ink out of it tomorrow. And also, when you bring the mail in, on junk mail day Wednesday, toss is straight into the recycling bin!

Get the Family to Help

Unless you live alone, you’re not responsible for all the clutter in your home. Get the whole family on board with decluttering. Spend some time each week, decluttering as a family. You’ll be so glad you worked together as a team to remove the excess stuff from your life.
