I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Good Humor. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
This Summer, Good Humor is embarking on a mission to bring joy to the mundane moments of everyday life, and transform East Coast cities into capitals of joy, one neighborhood at a time. After stopping off on its “Welcome to Joyhood” summer campaign in New York City and Philadelphia, the iconic brand is continuing its tour and traveling to Washington D.C. I love being so close to Washington, D.C. and having the opportunity to participate in events in that area. I was recently invited to board a double-decker bus with Good Humor and the Washington Nationals Mascots, the Running Presidents to drive around D.C. and spread the Welcome to Joyhood Spirit. I was so excited to be selected as a blogger to attend this event and took off work from my regular day job to attend this event.
I drove a little over an hour to get there, parked at the Washington Nationals stadium and boarded the bus. The experience was fantastic and I loved seeing how the residents and those in D.C. that day were so excited to see the bus and the Good Humor crew driving by. There were a ton of people taking pictures of our bus which had the mascots up top along with Michael, the Good Humor man. We were able to ride on top of the bus and that was an experience as I’ve never been a passenger on one of those buses.
Fueled by consumer conversations, Good Humor® will engage with fans on Twitter, and send the Good Humor® Joy Squad through their neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. from August 4 to August 22, surprising and delighting them with frozen treats and other unexpected delights. The Joy Squad will show up in neighborhoods and at events, local retailers and local businesses – as well as some unexpected places – to bring joy to everyday life.
When we were all getting on the bus, we weren’t sure how the 9 foot tall mascots were going to get in the regular sized bus doors, around the corner and up a flight of stairs to reach the top of the bus. However, with the help of the Washington Nationals staff, they got up there and were ready for the ride. We all boarded the bus and started on our journey to Metro Center to pass out some treats.
On our way there we heard numerous people cheering and saw them getting their phones out (no matter what they were doing) to snap a picture of the bus with the mascots on top. We arrived at Metro Center and Michael, the Good Humor man, went down off the top of the bus to meet the other 2 Good Humor men and start passing out free treats from the truck and the car. You could see some people wondering what was going on and then others were super excited that we made a stop to give them some free treats. The Abraham Lincoln mascot was able to get off the bus at this stop for some picture opportunities with the fans and help hand out ice cream. Then, we finished at that location and headed on to our next stop, DuPont Circle.
During the trip from Metro Center to DuPont Circle, Michael was telling people below to follow Good Humor on Twitter to see where we are going next and where they’ll be for the remainder of their time in DC. Then, the mascots were having a great time dodging trees and red lights on the way to these locations- that was fun and scary all at the same time. They were ducking in the aisles to avoid taking tree branches or red lights with them ;). We arrived at DuPont Circle and immediately had a line of about 20 people at the Good Humor truck which just kept growing longer and longer. It was so fantastic to see those getting free treats with a smile on their face.
We headed back to the Nationals Stadium and chatted amongst ourselves about how this was a blast and the mascots must be tired ;). Overall, the experience with Good Humor and the Washington Nationals was fantastic. I love that I was able to go on this exclusive, uplifting event in our nation’s capital.
If you’re going to be in the DC area between now and August 22, you’ll want to follow Good Humor on Twitter! You’ll be one of the first to find out where the truck will be and have the opportunity to get free ice cream. Be sure to use the hashtag @JoyhoodDC to search pictures of those who received free treats and to share your own.
My time with Good Humor wouldn’t be complete without a photo opportunity. We took this ‘selfie’ right before I headed home and the Good Humor guys went to get more ice cream (totally guessing what they were doing next).
