We live about 40 minutes south of Washington D.C. and visit there quite frequently to see our beautiful nation’s capital. Even though we visit there frequently and I’ve lived here my entire life, there are some places that I have never been able to experience. One of those places is Madame Tussaud’s in Washington, D.C.. I’ve always wanted to go but we just could never find the right time. However, we took some time last weekend to make the trip as a family to the museum and I was so excited. The drive itself wasn’t too bad for us even though we went on a Holiday weekend (4th of July) and the city was packed. We found parking in the Ford’s Theater parking garage and opted for that instead of driving around to try to find street parking. Parking garages are never really cheap, and it ended up being $22 for us- but I think it was worth it.
We arrived and there was a line around the building to get in since there is a cost to enter. There was fun, upbeat music being played outside while we waited to get inside so that wasn’t bad. Garrett was carrying Liam in the Baby Bjorn and he loved facing out. The outside of the building is beautiful, it says Madame Tussaud’s on the outside and the doors were open to allow the customers to enter easily. We were greeted by a friendly cashier and then headed into the museum. The first part that we walked through was the Presidential display- and boy was that awesome. We had never been there so I was excited to see how realistic the wax figures looked- they looked SO real!! We walked around and took some pictures of the different presidents and read all of the fun fact wall signs for each figure.
It was pretty awesome to see them portrayed in real life size- I even found some that weren’t much taller than me!! 😉
We continued around the museum and found people like The Rock, Larry King, Babe Ruth and Oprah Winfrey. We stopped for some photo opportunities, of course. Although Liam stayed in the carrier for most of it, he ended up hungry so I carried him and fed him while he got pictures. The great thing about this museum is that you follow a distinct path and sometimes there are short lines to get pictures, but a majority of the time spent is at your own pace giving you enough time to read and enjoy looking at the wax figures.
It was a ton of fun ‘meeting’ these presidents and celebrities. To tell you how realistic they look, I have to share a funny story. My best friend is a HUGE Taylor Swift fan so I took a ‘selfie’ with Taylor Swift and texted it to her saying “I MET TAYLOR SWIFT.”
To say her reaction was hilarious….. is an understatement. She had NO clue we were going to the Wax Museum in DC so I caught her off guard. She said “I almost passed out. Is that a wax figure? It looks SO real.” So, there if you’re looking to meet some celebrities, you’ll want to visit the Wax Museum.
We couldn’t leave without meeting Frederick Douglass- the Douglass’ meet Frederick Douglass is what I used to share this picture. It was pretty funny to watch Liam’s face as he looked at these wax figures. We had a blast and I know we will go back as Liam gets older. This is a very educational experience and I think that it would be great for school aged children. They will learn the awesome facts about the presidents and get to take “selfies” with the celebrities. This is a safe and fun museum to visit if you’re in the D.C. area.
