Interview with Iain Armitage – Voice of “Chase”

Liam’s favorite character in all of PAW Patrol is Chase! Before he could say “Chase”, Liam would say “Police Dog” and everything was all about the police dog. He has all sorts of PAW Patrol toys, pajamas and more! He’s a fan. I had the awesome opportunity to sit down quickly with Iain who voices Chase to chat about his role in PAW Patrol: The Movie.

What is your biggest challenge voicing “Chase”?

Iain — It is very different than live acting because you’re just sitting in a little booth with a script and a microphone and all you’re really doing is “reading the script.” That sounds easy, right? BUTTT…. at the end of the script they have a list of inverts they want! You’re sitting in front of the mic and you’ll read something like “running” and you’ll have to make that sound like you’re actually running! Or it will say like “laughing” and you’ll have to do a genuine laugh into the microphone! Also, since it is PAW Patrol, there’s a whole lot of barking! There was excited barking, scared barking, nervous barking, etc.

What can we learn from Chase?

Iain — Chase is very loyal, funny and compassionate. He always tries to help everyone and I think that these things are very important characteristics to have. I try to be like that because I think that if everyone was like that, we’d have like no more sadness like ever! I think it’s so important to take away the loyalty aspect of Chase. You know, always standing by your friends and being there for them!

How do you feel that you’re like Chase?

Iain — I always try to be like him for all the reasons I listed. He is sweet, compassionate and fun. In general, I consider myself to be a pretty friendly person so I try to keep that up. Whenever I can tell someone is having a tough day, I can give them a smile and just be as nice as I can!

What do you hope viewers get out of watching PAW Patrol: The Movie?

Iain — I think mainly they get a whole lot of joy. This is a really fun movie. It was so much fun to work on but even more fun to watch. I also think a big this is to make sure to be kind to your friends and family and to always be compassionate! Someone might be having a rough day and you don’t know that so they may be mean or snap at you. Still treat them with kindness. I think in general it is just fun to watch PAW Patrol because these pups are SO awesome and crazy cool. You’ll watch them do something crazy like rescue people from a burning building and it is mind blowing!

Other than Chase, who is your favorite PAW Patrol character? Would you like to act them and why?

Iain — Well I am very much a foodie and I love eating so I’d have to say Rubble because he is awesome! He also is very funny which is a quality that I would love to have too. I also really like Liberty. I think if I could voice anyone else it would be Liberty. If I could have anyone’s job it would be Skye because I love to fly!
