Do you use your car’s safety features when you’re driving? Your car has safety features that are perfect for you to use in order to keep your family safe as you venture out.
As a Mom to a 6 year old with another little one on the way, staying safe while out on the roads is very important to me. My car is equipped with some great safety features that I use on a regular basis.
We are spending time in the car going to the fun family activities in our area like the pumpkin patch, and other family events. My car’s safety features are there to help me keep my family safe as we venture out.
Did you know that today’s cars are safer than ever? This is thanks to the advancements in engineering and technology. However, we have to remember that the technology only works if drivers use the features available to them.
Are you aware of the safety features that you car has and do you use them? If you’re not sure if you want to use them, check out a recent national survey done by Erie Insurance for more reasons and benefits.
In addition to safety features, you’ll need dependable car insurance. Erie Insurance is a good choice as they serve 12 states, plus D.C. and has more than 6 million policies in force for auto, home and business insurance!
Why Should You Use Your Car’s Safety Features?
What features do you think drivers are most likely to disable? If you guessed adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, you’d be right.
Adaptive cruise control is a feature that keeps your vehicle a specific distance from the car in front by automatically applying the brakes. This sounds like an awesome feature but drivers disable it because they feel they are not in control of their vehicle.

Lane keeping assist is another one that many drivers disable. This safety feature prevents the car from straying across lane markings by automatically braking or making minor steering adjustments.
Erie Insurance is not only an insurance company. They care about the safety of their customers and all drivers. In order to share the importance of a car’s safety features, Erie Insurance commissioned a national survey to draw attention to the safety features available in today’s cars.

The outcome of this survey is what Erie Insurance has used to encourage drivers to take advantage of them. They encourage drivers to give these safety features a chance. As drivers become more comfortable to them, using them will become second nature.

This second nature will be like seatbelts are today and there is huge pay off in terms of reducing crashes and saving lives.
What to Look for When Shopping for a New Car
Erie Insurance’s survey revealed the top 11 safety features that are available on cars today. As you can see above, the top 2 disabled are adaptive cruise control and lane assist.
The one feature that showed significant hesitation was adaptive cruise control. The reason why is because these drivers feel that they are not in control of their car.

When you’re shopping for a new car, check out the safety features and focus on which ones are important to you and your family’s safety.
Also remember that the percentages of drivers that stated they would definitely not want the other 10 features (outside of adaptive cruise control) were in the single digits.
There are a lot of choices when it comes to purchasing a new car. You can choose the paint color, size, type, warranty, etc. Also remember that you have a choice in auto insurance and you deserve a personalized experience.

Just the reverse camera is a massive game changer. I feel so naked when I have to back up a car that doesn't have a camera. So yes, please bring on ALL the safety features and then some!
