Product Review: Skybell WiFi Video Doorbell! @myskybell

When we bought our home, we were worried about being on the corner and accessible to the main road, so we got a security system installed. We have a regular doorbell, you know the traditional “ding-dong” doorbell but we didn’t have a peep hole or anyway to see who was at our door. Recently, though, the battery died in the doorbell and we just never replaced it, LOL. Many of the days we are both not home so we don’t know how many times someone is on our porch. We both work full time so it is just the dogs at home.

I was sent the new Skybell Video Doorbell to try out! I was excited to read all of the features about this doorbell including that it is usable over WiFi and you can see who is at your door via your smartphone! That means that when we are at work, we can see who comes to our door, or if we are out of town, we can as well. Here’s a little about Skybell:

SkyBell is the smart video doorbell that lets you answer the door from your smartphone. SkyBell features a video camera, exclusive motion sensor, microphone and a speaker that allows you to see, hear and speak to your visitor from an iOS or Android mobile device – anywhere in the world!

Pretty awesome huh? The price point of this WiFi doorbell is $199, which may seem a little pricey at first glance but when you see the features in the video and those that I highlight below you’ll see why I think that it is reasonably priced. Installation of the doorbell was super simple and the device is installed in the regular doorbell spot on your house or doorframe. The box comes with everything you need to install the doorbell yourself and the instructions for using the app on your phone. We are about to move and I am really excited to use it in our new home (yay) but we did install it on our current home to try it out knowing that we could move it to the new house in the future.

My husband and I both work pretty far from home so we never know who is at our door. Therefore, something like this doorbell is awesome for us- we can see who comes by whether we are home or not. Our dogs are home but they certainly do not have a memory to tell us who stopped by. I love that I can answer and speak to whoever is at my door from my desk at work or even from inside of my house! That is an awesome feature. The only downside I see to this is that if your WiFi goes out in your home you don’t have the doorbell as it requires WiFi to work. However, we don’t have many days when that happens, so I think we’re in the clear! Another awesome feature is that you can turn the camera on whether someone rings the doorbell or not, like if I hear someone out there I can see and speak to them– much better than a peephole or opening the door to see who is there.

So, what do you think? This would be a great gift for the new homeowner or someone that is up on the latest technology. I personally am excited to continue to use the Skybell!
