What was your favorite movie as a kid? One of my all time favorites was Mary Poppins and still to this day do I sing the songs! I was SO excited to hear that Disney was making a sequel called Mary Poppins Returns and even more excited to see this movie when it is released.
Mary Poppins has a fun story line, some catchy songs and is just overall a great movie. To celebrate that this is my favorite movie of all time, I have a fun recipe for “A Spoonful of Sugar” cake pops that you can make with your family as you get ready for the release of Mary Poppins Returns in December 2018.

Cake pops are a dessert that are delicious and fun to make. There are so many variations and this recipe is no exception. They’re moist and delicious just like a cake pop should be. Plus, they go along with the Mary Poppins theme!
A Spoonful of Sugar Cake Pops
You Will Need
- 1 box of cake mix – plus the ingredients needed to make it
- 1 tub of vanilla frosting
- White candy melts
- White sugar crystals
- Plastic spoons
- Wax paper
- Cake Pop Mold (optional)
Directions
Mix your cake mix according to your package instructions.
Bake the cake and let it cool completely. In a large bowl, crumble the cake.
Add in the frosting. I use a traditional creamy buttercream frosting. I haven’t tried making it with the whipped frosting, so I can’t tell you how it affects the texture. Mix together thoroughly.
Lay a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet. Roll small cake balls and place on your sheet. These cake pops are going to have to be a smaller pop in order to fit into your spoon. Place the sheet in the freezer for about 20 minutes until they are set.
(Hint: If your cake mix is hard to roll, place the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes!)
In a small bowl, melt the candy melts according to the package directions. Dip one of your cake pops into the white candy coating.
You want it to be evenly coated, but not dripping.
Add the sugar sprinkles and place back on the cookie sheet.
In your plastic spoon, place a drop of the white candy coating and before it hardens, place your cake pop.
Put the spoons on your baking sheet and freeze for a few minutes until it can set. (It won’t take long!)

What a cute idea for a little taste treat. I've not tried cake pops nor made them, these would be fun to do.
