Sensory bins are a great indoor activity for your kids that allow them to experience many things! This Spring Bird Sensory Bin is the perfect thing for the warmer spring weather with fun products and stories to be told. You can find all of the materials for this bin at the dollar store which makes it a great craft for your kids to do on a rainy day. The bonus is that they can play with it after they make it. Then, you can put a lid on it for storage. Here’s another Spring craft — Bluebird Plate Craft.
Spring Bird Sensory Bin Craft for Kids
Supplies needed:
Plastic bin
Assorted fake birds
Raffia or straw
Assorted sticks, leaves
Rocks and pebbles
Bird seed
Optional: small flower pots, spoons, cups, and other scooping materials
You can find all of the items we used for this spring bird sensory bin at your local Dollar Tree store.
Directions:
1. Begin by filling the plastic bin ¾ of the way full with birdseed. You can use a birdseed mix or one kind of seed if you wish.
2. Bunch the raffia into small clusters for nests. Add these to the sensory bin along with extra pieces of raffia.
3. Place assorted sticks, twigs, and leaves in your sensory bin. We just used pieces we found outside in nature.
4. Add in a handful of rocks and pebbles. You can use pieces found in nature or grab a bag for $1 at Dollar Tree.
5. If you wish to add in items for scooping and stirring feel free to do so!
Kids will enjoy building nests for their birds, using the sticks to stir the seeds, burying the rocks, and using the pieces in the spring bird sensory bin for make believe play. It will help encourage fine motor skills while also encouraging imaginative play!
