The first time I tried a Stroopwafel was on a United Airlines flight. I had no idea what this treat was, but I was excited to try as I am a huge dessert person. I opened the Stroopwafel package and enjoyed the delicious caramel filled wafers and then looked up a little about this decadent treat.
If you’ve never tried a Stroopwafel, you may be wondering what they are! A stroopwafel “is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle.” The ones that are sold in the US are made in Holland and then imported into the states.

My favorite way to enjoy Stroopwafels is warmed up on my cup! I simply make some coffee and then place a Stroopwafel on top while the coffee is hot. This melts the center and makes the Stroopwafel that much more delicious.
Flavors
There are a few flavors available and all are delicious so its hard to pick a favorite. The first one I tried was the Caramel one, but I recently tried the Honey and the Chocolate-Caramel. All are delicious in their own way.
Although Daelmans Stroopwafels are not made in the US, you can find them in some local retailers like Cost Plus World Market, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Barnes and Noble Starbucks cafes, and fine grocery stores and convenience stores across the country. Locally here in Maryland, I found them in Harris Teeter — yum!
Here are a few fun facts about Daelmans Stroopwafels:
- We bake several million stroopwafels in our bakery every single day!
- Because of our unique way of baking, cooling, and packaging, we use 40% less energy for a single pack of stroopwafels.
