Summer is just about here and with that you may be getting your car ready for some family trips or even for summer sports. I don’t know about you, but since it was such a cold weather and rainy beginning of Spring, my car has been an absolute wreck! I am excited to take a quick few hours to clean my car out and get it ready for Summer traveling and fun. Getting your car ready for the Summer months ahead and the trips you have planned doesn’t have to take you that long. A quick vacuum of the carpets, wipe down of the dash and other controls, an air filter change and an air freshener can make your car look and smell like new for the summer!
We have a few trips planned this summer to amusement parks – Dutch Wonderland and Busch Gardens that we will take this car for! Then in the late summer we are taking our annual vacation to the Outer Banks. Getting my car ready for the summer is a quick process, I’d like to share my Summer Car Care Kit and show you how an air filter change can be done at home for cheaper than at the dealership or auto repair shop.
To make you Summer Car Care Kit, you just need a few things that you have around your home. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on things that are in the stores for cleaning you car, a simple mixture of items you have in house will work. Here’s what is in mine:
- Microfiber Towels
- DIY Cleaner of Ammonia/Water
- Q-Tips
- Air Freshener
- Trash Bag
The ammonia and water solution is simply a 1:1 ratio of each item. Then you can use that to clean pretty much anything in your car. First, I remove all of the trash and items that do not need to be in there. I cannot tell you how many blankets, carriers, papers, etc. have ended up in my car. My dash is pretty dusty so I sprayed the cleaning solution on there and wiped it down with a microfiber cloth. Then, my gear shift is pretty cruddy so I used the cleaned and Q-tips to get the hard to reach spaces. Super simple and quick! Then, just a quick vacuum of the carpets and hang up the air freshener and we are off to changing the air filter. Voila, my car is clean and hopefully will stay that way!
I just took a few minutes to clean my car out and wipe it down, check out the difference:
I didn’t realize that something as simple as changing you car’s air filter can help your car so much! A clean air filter improves airflow and prevents dirt and dust from entering and damaging the engine. Plus, they’re so easy to change as I’ll show you below. Dirty air filters restrict airflow, which can contribute to decreased acceleration, horsepower, and reduced overall performance.
You can purchase this great quality air filter at your local Walmart– search online so you can see the right filter for your car. Changing it out was a breeze:
