With a baby on the way, my husband and I decided to take a weekend away for our anniversary! We didn’t have much vacation time from work (saving up for when the baby gets here) but we knew that we needed something called a ‘babymoon’ together before our lives change with the arrival of our little one. We didn’t want to go very far– wanted something within driving distance but knew that we wanted a beach! We contemplated Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City, or Virginia Beach. After looking at our options and found a great deal at the Hampton Inn Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, VA!
We’ve never stayed in a hotel oceanfront but decided to splurge a little bit for the oceanfront experience! This was, after all, our 3 year wedding anniversary short vacation. We arrived on Friday, mid-day, and were astounded at the view! When we booked the hotel, we got a King sized suite with an oceanfront balcony– definitely worth it. Yes, it was a little more expensive but we splurged for the great view. That way, at night we were able to go back to the room and just relax watching the waves come and go from afar– a great view for sure.

Not only did we decide to splurge on an oceanfront hotel, we also went for a nice dinner at Chops which I purchased a Groupon voucher for! This restaurant wasn’t too far from our hotel and was a great place to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere was amazing, and we were immediately sat (reserved seats in advance) and our waitress was very polite. My husband ordered the dry rubbed steak and I ordered a smaller version of his steak. They were both cooked to perfection and the side dishes we got were also delicious. This was a great treat for our anniversary and we would love to visit this restaurant again!
After dinner, I had purchased a Groupon voucher for Pirate’s Paradise Mini Golf– we were both able to play a round of golf and got a funnel cake at the end. The golf course offered free parking not too far from the location so we didn’t have to walk far. The mini golf course itself was fun and challenging at times. There were the traditional 18 holes and my husband even got a hole in one!!
Mind you, I was beating him before then, but he came back and kicked my butt. We truly enjoyed our time there with the waterfalls, challenging mini golf courses, and the boat at the end. Of course, we had to climb up the ramp of the boat at the end to enjoy– it was pretty fun. Although, we’re a little too big to fit through the areas, but it was still fun. This would be a great family activity location.
Our experience in Virginia Beach was awesome, and we’re are definitely planning to go back! We even caught a car show on the boardwalk which had a great variety of cars that we were able to view and meet with the owners. There were also beach concert series that were available as well as some other entertainment including a wine tasting festival and some sort of charity walk. Virginia Beach is definitely a great location for a family vacation and we plan to take our family there.

I haven't been in VA beach but it sounds like a perfect place to visit. I'm glad you were able to get away before the baby. Keep connecting even when the baby gets here.
